Presented by: Sheila Gauch, LICSW
Sheilah Gauch is a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW). She also holds a Masters in Educational Organizational Management and is licensed as a principal, special ed administrator and school adjustment counselor through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Sheilah has been working with children with significant mental health needs for over 20 years. Sheilah is currently the Principal of Dearborn Academy, a Chapter 766 Private Therapeutic Day School. Dearborn Academy serves students with significant social/emotional and learning challenges.
Sheilah began her career working with children, ages 5-18, in an outpatient treatment setting. Sheilah then moved to work as a clinician at a residential treatment program, where she stayed for close to ten years. From there, she moved to join a public school setting as a Special Education social worker. Here she supported sub-separate programming and went on to develop and oversee the district’s Tier 3 off-site transitional program.
Sheilah is the chair of her local Special Education Advisory Council (SEPAC). She has two children of her own children who have required special education services. Both of her children were ultimately diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep (PANDAS) and she recently led the successful effort to get state legislation passed on this issue.
HOW CAN CAREGIVERS SUPPORT STUDENTS TO USE TECHNOLOGY IN SAFE AND HEALTHY WAYS
INTERNET SECURITY EXPERT, KATIE GREER
Date: February 2, 2021
Time: 7pm
Overview of Parent Workshops:
While much of my work is directed to a younger audience, you’d be surprised by how many adults are mystified by the world we live in. For this reason, I make sure to offer programs that help “big kids” navigate the new normal of technology. It’s no longer sensible to bury our heads in the sand and hope all this goes away - it’s here to stay. With that, I’ve developed programs that help parents, techies, administrators, and law enforcement stay on top of what’s now and what’s next in this digital world.
From parents wanting to better understand the boundaries (and opportunities!) of tech to corporations that want their staff to brush up on the latest apps and social media trends, to school staff trying to wrap their brains around healthy tech balance, my message is tailored and digestible to any audience. My goal is to educate in a way that helps audiences use the internet in a safer, more productive way, from recognizing health traps to protecting yourself with privacy precautions. We cover a lot and - and it often is coming directly from what the kids are divulging that very day. So take a deep breath, perhaps smile and laugh - we got this…piece of cake.
Description of this Parent Workshop Offering:
The following workshop will provide advice for having real conversations with your child to foster a positive online experience for your family, with suggested restrictions and rules. We will discuss how to design digital health check-ins and think about the following question: "Is your family doing a good job balancing life and technology? Most KIDS say "NO!"
