Millbury - After School Mental Health PD Offerings
In continuing to provide high quality professional development to all staff in the district once again Millbury will be offering a series of Professional Development workshops. Any staff can sign up from one to all of the workshops being offered.
Wednesday, October 28, 2015 - "Raising Awareness to Diverse Populations" - This workshop is about recognizing that each individual is unique, but more importantly; searching for similarities upon which we may bridge any gaps and unlock the key to building empathy. The workshop will discuss school culture, the classroom, and the importance of identity.
Thursday, January 14, 2016 - "Keeping Our Sanity: Burnout Mitigation" - According to Harvard Research, well over 60 percent of visits to a doctor are for stress-related conditions. Managing stress and building long-term resiliency are scientifically proven to improve healthcare outcomes and quality of life. This workshop will practice strategies to reduce stress, share what works and participants will have an opportunity to set individual goals and objectives in hopes of mitigating burnout.
Thursday, March 10, 2016 - "Gender As A Fluid Concept: How to Support LGBT Students" - According to a recent Human Rights Campaign survey, LGBT students report being harassed at school - both verbally and physically - at twice the rate of non-LGBT youth.
With heightened stressors like bullying, harassment and a lack of role models, LGBT students are also more likely to experience negative educational outcomes. In this workshop, learn the difference between gender and biological sex, how to use correct pronouns to support our youth, and become an ally.
Thursday, May 12, 2016 - "Helping Students Transition: Coping with Change" - Transitioning is an overarching concept; however in this workshop we will focus on how classroom interventions may alleviate fears, teach resilience, and build self-determination skills in students of all ages.
